Kiev Family & Counselor training team office purchase

The church in Ukraine is rebuilding. Meanwhile, there is alcoholism, divorce, dysfunctional families, drug abuse, an AIDS epidemic, and hopelessness. The Kiev Family & Counselor training team (KFCt) works to prepare Christian leaders to ministeer to the hurts of people and their families in the church and outside of the church. This is part of ReachGlobal's holistic ministry of discipleship and compassion that has been warmly received in Ukraine.

Dennis and Lydia Bowen direct KFCt, Dennis in counselor training and Lydia in family ministry training. This spring, nine interns are finishing their second eyar as interns in Christian counseling and family ministry. In addition, today KFCt has several partnerships with Ukrainians who share our vision of training, discipleship, and ministering to the hurting individuals and families. All this is for the purpose of strengthening the church by bringing individuals and families to greater emotional and spiritual health.

In December, KFCt lost its office. Now the team works out of the Bowen's apartment and rents a Sunday school room at a nearby church to use as a counseling office. However, they need to find something more workable and stable. And so ReachGlobal and KFCt anticipate buying an office space. There will be many steps before this task is complete. This is where you and your church can help.

Could you make an investment in the future of healthy people, healthy families and healthy churches in Ukraine? Would you consider making a donation to this project?

Kiev Family & Counselor training team operating budget

Today in Ukraine many believers and leaders are young Christians. Although they all will be doing counseling, very few church leaders have had any training in how to help hurting people and hurting families.

One holistic discipling and training initiative is the Kiev Familly & Counselor training team (KFCt). Dennis and Lydia Bowen lead the team, working with Ukrainian staff members and volunteers. In the former Soviet Union there had never been an emphasis on practical training for those in these kinds of services. This spring, nine interns finished their second year as interns in family ministry and Christian counseling.

As part of the internship program, the interns presented seminars in churches and helped teach seminary classes. They began to have their own counseling clients--individuals and families, believers and unbelievers.

In addition, KFCt has partnerships with Ukrainian churches and agencies who share the vision of training, discipleship, and ministering to hurting individuals and families. All this is for the purpose of strengthening the church by bringing individuals and families to greater emotional and spiritual health.

Ukraine has the fastest growing rate of AIDS/HIV infection in the world. This tragic situation also provides a great opportunity for the Church to minister to people who would otherwise have no contact with believers. The ReachGlobal Kiev team and the KFCt team is preparing a Christian response to the AIDS/HIV crisis in Ukraine. The teams are working with other ministries to present a conference in November focusing on churches and Christian agencies working with community organizations to address the AIDS crisis.

Several years ago, ReachGlobal asked the Bowens to establish this Family & Counselor training team as a separate project, with its own budget. In its four years, KFCt has not had pledges equal to each year's budget. This limits the amount of outreach the team of Ukrainians and missionaries is able to do. If the budget were met, more work can take place in ministering to growing churches and hurting people.
